WA Songwriter Volume One
Red Chin Music is an Independent record label based in Western Australia. WA Songwriters Volume One, as the name suggests is the first in an ongoing series of releases promoting local contemporary music.
Track Listing: Jill Birt - Fete Day
Shaun Corlson - You Don’t Want Me In The Morning
The JAC - Truly, Julie & Terry
Richard Lane - Back On My Feet
Kevin Smith -Drug Squad ’93
Robbie Jalapeno & TFBFB - Old Baxter
Salvage Diver - Walk Away
After touring Europe and Australia in 2011 with The Triffids, this year has seen Jill Birt release her solo CD Render + Prosper. Recent shows in Fremantle and Melbourne for the launch of Render + Prosper, have confirmed Jill and her band as serious participants in the local live scene. At first listen this is music of conventional singer songwriter tradition. However, Jill’s hauntingly fragile vocals and sparse musical arrangements soon draws the listener down a path that is both intimate and raw.
Shaun Corlson has been making music unsuccessfully for years. His work in 'No Flowers No Wedding Dress' and comically metal named 'db Threshold' illustrate this perfectly. Never the less Shaun moves on unregarded, caring little for the lack of regard. Following his muse from band to band and from song to song.
Joe Algeri is a songwriter and producer from Perth, Western Australia now known as the JAC. He is also a member of Jack & the Beanstalk and the Britannicas .Check out his latest album at www.thejac.com
Richard Lane first rose to prominence as Guitarist/ Keyboardist/ Vocalist and all round rock n roll heart-throb with Australian power pop legends ‘The Stems’. He plans a new Solo Album this year, and has been recording with Ricky Maymi from The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Kevin Smith fronted his first band at the age of 44. Two albums followed with Kevin Smith and the Seven Storey Jumpers which contained 3 songs nominated for WAM Song of the Year Awards.
Kevin has played and recorded with members of The Kill Devil Hills, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Grinderman, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and The Stems as well as a number of country-fused duets with Abbe May. While his releases went largely unnoticed, Kevin soon gained the respect of his songwriting peers and is considered a teller of dark tales, songs of loss and deception. Kevin is currently recording a series of low-fi, stripped-back tunes that honour the traditions of country and blues music. “My Angels Ride Dark Horses” it is due for release in mid 2013.
Robbie and his band, the bureaucrats recorded and released 3 singles,'Mirror Man', 'Far Horizons' and 'Nosferatu' in 2011.The first two are the inital releases of the forthcoming bureaucrats album, Carmina de Nihil, which is currently being recorded at various sessions between Latenite Studios in Bayswater, Western Australia and The Wrong Sea Studio in Willetton, Western Australia.
The album is due for release in early 2013.
Salvage diver may or may not exist as a band. There are suggestions they do, but very little evidence other than sporadic on line releases. There are no gigs planned but they may change at any moment. News from the bunker is that they are hooking up with a certain Australian Pop legend who will soon start mixing 30 tunes for a project called 'Giant'.

The Sea
Waves wash against the curve of the coast
light surfs over the tops of the waves
smoke curls up from your lips
a string of hair wet stuck on your cheek
I am no stranger to this awe i now feel
you do it every time
The mystery of someone else's skin
lips to kiss and to lie with
ah sweet human duplicity
we can be both love and in love
stretched out on the sand
in a dreamy haze
Out on the edge of the world the stars and moon have a strange pull
wanting to stretch out my soul into the night sky
our puppet hearts beating to a new rhythm
a new idea a new play a new day
Its coming up on the hills behind us
though we can not see it yet
Our love twists out to sea on gusts of winds
a bird sings in the dark
A song we can not sing too
But listen hear its story
Feel its beauty
Makes something dance inside
